FMBC aka... The greatest weekend of my life.
I remember the excitement I felt, another year of states. Way to go for my dedication to band. On Friday, I woke up and begged my mom to go to Walgreens because Dollar Tree junk food wasn't going to cut it, I arrived at school and remember going through the front with my band bag, pillow, anddd rolly suit case... I looked completely out of place it being a normal day at school and all... the bell rang and everyone went to class as I rolled my way towards the band room... I remember coming into the auditorium and running inot many bags.. everything was placed into lines... So when the dogs came in to check for drugs everything was in the upmost orderly fashion... No one brought drugssss...Surprise surprise?? haha I remember the crazy things brought las year with Emily and Jasmine... I thought Mr. J knew about these kinds of things but of course he didn't and when he found out this year he was pretty upset about it.. but anyways continuing on about this... We all sat down and talked a little. It was nice to know we wouldn't be going to any of our classes that day... It was time to grab all of our things and head out to the buses... I meant bus, usually we'd always go in two because we were such a bigger band last year and well I seem to forget that a lot. This is the part where you pig out and wtahc movies and of course no body had brought any, I was actually going to bring some... Unfortunatley I don't think anyone would had been interested in watching any church movies... Although I do love the restoration movie with Joseph Smith<3 We didn't really have any res stops, and his was the part where we finally arrived to Desoto High school, Which is currently in the middle of no where and smells like horse crap. Quite the hillarious i think haha... During the students lunch time we performed our show, it went pretty well.. When we had gotten there we used the resrooms, we ate a sub and chips... I remember we stretched and also did some across the floors :D When we were finally on our way to the hotel, we took many pictures... When we got to the hotel we did the traditional senior speeches... this was an absolute touching moment everyone was crying you can truly tell all of us seniors wanted to make it into the dome. And well I cryed during mine, laura cryed a lot too. Priscila didn't even shed a tear. It was crazy and well it's one of those moments I will never forget... When we finally got the key to our room we ran there chose beds and Patricia and I were stuck sleeping in the same bed.. She snores a lot that was the only down fall haha... Some of us took showers and we were heading towards Angelica and Sam's room where we had spaghetti that Laura made! :) We all anounced a lot what we loved about guard and wrote down what we hated and rippped the peices a part the usual tradition as well :) And then I remember the band parents coming in a lot cuase it was 10, we ended up going to our rooms, and finally showering, I made a couple of trips to get towels and blankets that hotel was sort of creepy... And well the night came and it was hillarious Michelle couldn't stop laughing Andrea and Priscila fell asleep, and after that we all went to bed.... Not to mention Pauleen was right next door.... the next series of events were the following... we got to the school, we practiced, had to ove out spot nine times, practiced again, I kept messing up, everyone was not focusing, then we put some glitter on our lips, it was almost time to perform... Drink some water... PERFORM! I messed a little, eat lunchhhh, go down to the feild.. hear all the placements from 30 to 6 and well the best percussin guard and blah blah in the middle of all that... Much holding hands... and pressureee getting to the moment where they called 10th place praying and knowing we were going to make it....I was crying by then and it all came down to that one moment, where they called 6th place and it was John A. Ferguson. It was in that moment that I realized that John I. Leonard's Mighty Lancer Band had made it to the dome... from square one it had all been worth it. From the beginning of time. When no one thought we would make it, we prooved them wrong. I remember the disbelief I felt. If I had to describe it in one word I would have chosen sureal. Because it totally was... at that point everyone was crying and jumping down. It was a complete shock... to have been waiting for so long and to have finally reached something. We couldn't have done it without the help of Mr. J ... "Positive attitudes and good will towards all!" I love the band and I think I might have hugged everyone that day. I remember hugging my best friend, Joseph and then getting blood on Thalia's face... It was pretty bad, my ear had begun bleeding I lost my phone that afternoon and someone found it at the ticket booth.... a bunch of memories locked up in my brain :) When we finally came into the finals bus and reached our destination we had pizza and punch, we used the restrooms.. I did keeley's crazy make-up all over again and Laura did mine... funny stuff.. and I remember just feeling completely happy. Like nothing else mattered. The dome was huge. No one was kidding and the feeling you get when you walk inside is undescribable. there are lights all around you, you feel extra small on this gigantic feild.... There's a small tunnel and a tank filled with ray's. The trpicana dome is a maching band's dream. It was my reality. The fake platic grass felt nice under my feet and the lights that shined all over were overwhelming. I was excited, more than ever before. I wasn't a tad bit nervous at all. They anounced JIL and I got tingly sensations all over my body. By the time I had set up, the music started and The best permformance of my life had begun. I remember smiling endlessly. Because I was truly happy. I wanted to show off what I had worked for on months. And well it was truly amazing. Our performance had ended and it was time to get off the feild the echo's and everything I had witnessed were gone. We ate some expensive food and bought lot's of tickets for a raffle I remember each of us paying 3 bucks. Or something like that. we broke the strip in parts. and well by the time it was 10:30 we grabbed all our stuff and headed down to the feild. They talked about scholarships aand announced the ticket winners. the prize was $800.00 which was a lot of money if you ask me, of course I was only a number away, these sorts of things always happen to me and well then it was time to announce the winners. Starting with class 1A. We weren't 5th nore 4th, and heck yes we were third. I remember the banner they placed in front of us and the way i jumped up and my hands were in the air when we won! It was the absolute best Weekend Of my life.
